The Number 1 Travel Credit Card

Three Words: Chase Sapphire Reserve

Chase Sapphire Reserve

The Chase Sapphire Reserve is by far the best credit card for traveling in my opinion. Below is a list of reasons why.

1. Get $750 of travel credit when you spend $4,000 in the first 4 months

This is awesome! But for many people, $4,000 in three months may be too much. However, remember that you can use a service like plastiq to put rent, car payments, and all other bills on your credit card when they would normally require cash.

2. 3x points on all dining and travel

Fine Dining Restaurant

Get three points on every dollar spent on dining and travel. This adds up quickly!

3. 50% more when redeeming points for travel through Chase portal

Get a 1.5x multiplier when redeeming your points for travel through Chase travel portal . This means if you get 3 points for every dollar spent and 1.5x for redeeming through Chase travel portal, you get 4.5% back on every dollar spent.

4. TSA Precheck and Global Entry Credit

TSA Security Line

This credit card gives you a $100 reimbursement for TSA Precheck or Global Entry. This saves you a lot of time when traveling both internationally and domestically.

5. Priority Pass Select Lounge Access

Airport Lounge

This credit card allows you to enroll in Priority Pass select for free! Priority Pass select gives you access to 1,000+ lounges at airports across the globe. This was a lifesaver when I was backpacking in Asia. Free food and beverages and a comfortable place to wait for your flights.

6. No foreign transaction fees

Most credit cards require you to pay 3% on every purchase while traveling internationally. Thankfully with Chase Sapphire Reserve, you don’t have to pay a penny of extra fees.

7. 24/7 customer service

I’ve used this customer support hotline many times and am very satisfied with it. One time I had to replace my card while traveling Brazil, and I received a new card within 3 days of calling Chase. Their customer service is amazing!

8. $300 annual travel credit

Chase Sapphire Reserve reimburses up to $300 of travel spending annually.

An exhaustive list of benefits can be found at NerdWallet. These Benefits include:

  • purchase protection
  • return protection
  • extended warranty
  • rental car coverage
  • trip cancellation insurance
  • trip delay reimbursement
  • lost luggage reimbursement
  • medical emergencies

Drawbacks

The main drawback to this card is it’s hefty $450 annual membership fee. However, you get $300 per year in travel credit, so essentially you are only paying $150 per year for the card. Therefore with 3x rewards on travel and dining and 1.5x through the Chase travel portal, you have to spend $3,334 on travel and dining annually to justify this credit card.
